Burdens and Blessings

Hi Friends,

To say that these past few days have been have been "trying" might just be the understatement of the year.

My sister and her husband arrived on Sunday, in order to have a surgical procedure by the famous Dr. James Gills. On that same night, I received a call that my Mother, now living in an Assisted Living Facility, had fallen and they sent her to St. Anthony's Hospital. Mother's sight and hearing are almost gone, her memory functions at about 10%, and she is frequently in great pain. The hours spent in the emergency room were wild.

From that time, it was determined that she would have to be in a Nursing Home - something I have asked the Lord many times to avoid. Amazing isn't it, how we count "prayers answered" only when they're answered according to "our will"? It is very hard to describe the pain of placing her there to anyone who has not experienced it.

I drop by each evening to "feed" her - Her vision and trembling hands prevent her from doing it for herself. I will be leaving shortly for what has now become a part of my routine.

HOWEVER, as I write this on her 100th BIRTHDAY, the Lord blessed me with another great grandchild.........Elizabeth Anne Ryles. HOW SPECIAL, HOW HISTORIC. God blesses our family with great joy right in the middle of heavy heartache. WHAT A GREAT GOD TO KNOW, LOVE, AND SERVE.

He loves you,

Arthelene

HAPPY 100 BIRTHDAY TO MRS. MCCLURE

I am very sorry to hear about Mrs. McClure.
She used to babysit my sister and me, back in the '70's.

Each time we were there at Mrs. McClure's house (which happens to be right behind St. Pete Christian School where we attended) my younger sister, Wendy, would brush Mrs. McClure's hair ~ she really enjoyed that!

I remember that Mrs. McClure would be out there mowing her yard or painting her house ~ she was very active at her 'older years' and for a much longer time than most people.

Over the years, I would stop in for a visit while on vacation from Greensboro, North Carolina. She was all ways happy to see me and I would show pictures of everyone. There was a time when she saw my mother, sister, and myself, all together, while we were on vacation.

I have a picture of Mrs. McClure with us at a birthday party, at Farrell' Ice Cream Parlor, that used to be at Tyrone Square Mall in St. Pete.

I just wanted to share some past memories.
Love,
Tracy

Yes, Happy Birthday to Arthelene's mother!
Those going ahead of us have such an effect on our lives. I have a special place in my heart for the "elderly" or - as I have now turned 53 - for those who have preceded us. I thank God for the ones who taught me, loved me, bathed me, listened to me, encouraged me, and so many other things. My mom was one of the greatest of these; these have been others that helped greatly also! God is so great to send us others to show His love to us. For my Mom, my mother-in-law and so many others I am eternally grateful. Let's love others with the Love He has loved us!

You are such a wonderful example to your viewers. You "walk the walk" as well as "talk the talk". People see this and respond to it.

You are blessed because you should have no regrets concerning your mother's care. That she wasn't in a nursing home long ago is a testimony to your love and devotion.

As care pastor, I deal with the old and dying, nursing homes, dementia units, and assisted living facilities all the time. What you have done for your mother is remarkable and a great example for all the viewers out there who have been forced into the same position.
